ZESA Hikes Tarrifs by 227%

The Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) Friday announced new power tariffs for domestic users which will see low power users having to deal with a 227% hike.

Low power users who are connected to the 200kWh/month will start paying t ZWL157 up from ZWL48 which translates to an average of US$0.12 per kWh up from approximately US$0.02.

The new changes come amid an erratic power situation which continues to bite business and homes.

Energy and Power Development Minister Fortune  Chasi last week revealed that the country had acquired 100Megwatt from neighbouring Mozambique to alleviate the power shortage.

In August this year, ZETDC effected an electricity tariff hike which tripled power charges for households.
