Two Former Harare Hospital workers stood before Harare Magistrate court yesterday facing fraud charges as defined in section 136 of the criminal law of codification and reform act, (chapter 9:23)

The two accused persons, Serenia Manhuwa 36, and Taurai Chibvongodze were dragged to court after swindling $1,400 from Simbarashe George Manyoka who needed a nursing training post at Harare Central Hospital last year.

According to the state papers, on the 10th of July 2015, the first accused person unlawfully misrepresented Manyoka that she can assist him to get a post to train as a nurse. The accused unlawfully took $1000 from Manyoka.

The court heard that the complainant handed over the money to the accused persons in company of his father who also testified before the court.

The complainant told the court that he signed an affidavit in company of the accused persons. The affidavit stipulated that Manyoka would initially pay $1000  and that he would settle the remaining $500 in instalments, which he did later.

He added that Manhuwa and Chibvongodze promised him that everything was in order and instructed him to buy uniforms.

The first accused person denied the charges being laid upon her saying that she only referred the complainant to the second accused, Chibvongodze.
