Haruzivishe Likely to Get Lengthy Sentence

Opposition MDC Alliance activist,  Makomborero Haruzivishe is likely to face a lengthy jail term following his conviction on charges of inciting public violence, his lawyer Hossam Ncube has said.

In an interview with Voice of America (VOA), Ncube said each of Haruzivishe’s two charges has the maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

Meanwhile, there has been an up-rise on social media against the judicial system of the country and the government in office, ZANU PF, with masses saying the conviction of Haruzivishe was apolitical.

Opposition Movement for Democratic Change Alliance (MDC-A) president Nelson Chamisa felt the blow.

“Our inability to resolve our differences peacefully & fix broken politics is costing us opportunities to make Zimbabwe great. Emerson Mnangagwa accept and embrace differences. Diversity is the substance of human existence. Stop persecuting dissent. Dissent strengthens. Diversity is profitable!” he said.

Fadzayi Mahere, MDCA spokesperson also commented on the issue.

“The conviction of Haruzivishe marks a sad day for constitutional rights in Zimbabwe. He is innocent. It is not a crime to demand a better society. The regime has declared war on aspiration and young people. We need new leaders.

Makomborero is currently in detention after being denied bail on another charge of kidnapping.

The case arises from allegations that he went to Impala Motor Spares and prohibited workers from leaving, demanding the release ZINASU leader Takudzwa Ngadziore who was also in remand prison.
