Incarcerated Harare West legislator Joana Mamombe is seriously ill while in prison, party Secretary General Charlton Hwende has said.
Posting on Twitter after visiting Mamombe and her counterpart Cecelia Chimbiri together with Vongai Tome, Hwende said the youthful legislator had been attended by a prison nurse who also called in a doctor to attend to her.
I have just been to Chikurubi Maximum Prison visiting incarcerated MDC Alliance female cadres Joana Mamombe, Cecilia Chimbiri and Vongai Tome. Joana Mamombe is seriously ill and has just been seen by a prison nurse who has since called in a doctor. Solidarity is our culture.
.Mamombe and Chimbiri were arrested for addressing a press conference outside the Harare Magistrates Court demanding the release of jailed MDC Youth Assembly leader Makomborero Haruzivishe.
Tome was arrested following a stand-off between MDC Alliance activists and police officers at the Harare Magistrates court on the day Haruzivishe was sentenced to 14 months in prison.

Mamombe and Chimbiri have other pending cases before the Harare Magistrates court including a charge of faking abduction and another one of breaching COVID-19 regulations when they participated in an MDC Alliance Youth Assembly demonstration in Warren Park in April last year.
