Chaos! Mighty Warriors, Zambia Match Hangs In Balance, Only 8 Players In Camp For Zimbabwe

Might Warriors Olympic 2020 qualifying return leg match against Zambia seems to be in doubt as the host, Zimbabwe have only eight players left in camp as the majority of uniformed teams withdrew their players on the 11th hours before kickoff.

The second leg is set for the giant National Sports Stadium this afternoon and the Mighty Warriors have a daunting task of overturning a 5-0 deficit, after they were trounced in Zambia last week.

A dejected Zifa president, Felton Kamambo confirmed the development to 263Chat, before crying foul that the teams should have done that earlier before to allow them and the technical team to look for replacements in time for the match.

He was however adamant that the match will be played as planned.

“It is unfortunate that this had to happen on the 11th hour. But tell you what, the match will be played today. If it doesn’t happen today, then it has to be tomorrow. We have already communicated with Fifa and they have given us a waiver,” said Kamambo.

He added that they had made an arrangement with the players that after today’s match, they were going to convene a meeting that would see the football governing body paying outstanding allowances to the players and their technical teams.

He also bemoaned the move by other football stakeholders to try and derail their efforts as Zifa in running the beautiful game of football.

“As I speak, out account has been garnished. We have the senior national team that has to fulfill a world cup qualifier away in Djibouti, the Under 23 and other youthful teams. All these games need money, but can we do?

Kamambo said he was now sure that a third force was behind all the disruptions that they have been facing all along.
