ZANU PF Member of Parliament for Mudzi West, Knowledge Kaitano, has pledged to improve rural education infrastructure as a catalyst for economic growth, launching construction works across several schools in his constituency.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for a long-abandoned science laboratory at Shinga Secondary School in Ward 4 last Friday, Kaitano highlighted the link between education and economic empowerment.
“Investing in education is the beginning of economic development. By constructing this infrastructure, we are preparing our youth for opportunities and empowering them to build a better Zimbabwe, in line with President Mnangagwa’s vision of leaving no one and no place behind,” said Kaitano
He noted that many school infrastructure projects in the ward had been stalled for years.
“Some projects were initiated over two decades ago but never progressed beyond the foundation level. We can no longer afford to stand by and do nothing while our children learn under such difficult conditions,” he said
At Shinga Secondary School, the MP is funding the completion of a science lab that had remained unfinished for years.
At Tsakare Primary School, Kaitano broke ground for a new two-classroom block, also left at foundation stage for several years.
He later officiated at Chimango Primary School, where he is funding the reconstruction of a block destroyed by storms in 2019.
“All building materials have been procured. Now it’s up to the builders and the community to get the job done,” he said. Over 10 builders have volunteered their skills, while the community pledged labour, bricks, and sand. Mudzi Rural District Council will provide technical support.
Ward 4 Councillor Chengetai Kapango commended Kaitano: “This is a game-changer for our children. I fully support this development initiative.”
Local parents also praised the lawmaker. “He’s committed to uplifting our lives. Our children can now pursue science subjects with proper facilities,” said Panashe Mazarura.
In addition to education, Kaitano has also rolled out a borehole drilling programme to address water shortages in the constituency.
As the MP continues his development drive, residents say they are hopeful that education in rural Mudzi will finally receive the attention it deserves.
