Citizens Meet Over Zim’s Worsening Political And Economic Crisis

A non-political civil grouping, the Citizens’ Manifesto, is set to hold its second National Citizen Convention on 24 and 25 September 2019 amid worsening economic and political situation in the country.

The Convention among other things is meant to map what civil society considers a sustainable path out of Zimbabwe’s deepening socio-economic and crisis.

Addressing a press conference in Harare today, Citizen’s Manofesto convenor Briggs Bomba said the convention is aimed at proffering solutions to the multi-faceted challenges facing the country.

“The principal objective of the Convention is to proffer solutions to the multi-faceted challenges facing the country. As such, the Convention will be a platform for citizens to critically and objectively reflect on Zimbabwe’s political and socio-economic crisis and come up with resolutions on how the country’s problems can be solved,” said Bomba.

He added that the convention is also expected to come up with a plan of action for adoption by the participating organizations in their advocacy for a democratic and prosperous Zimbabwe.

Running under the theme, ‘#It’s Us and Its Now: #ZimbabweTogetherWeWillFixIt, the convention will draw participants from civic organizations, civic coalitions, youths, women, groups, business, faith based organizations and the Diaspora.

The first citizen convention held last year was graced by former United Nations Secretary General, the late Koffi Annan.
