I was corrupt: Lumumba

Outspoken former ZANU PF member and leader of a new political outfit, Acie Lumumba has revealed that he was corrupt during his time in the ruling party.

Speaking at the launch of his political party, VIVA Zimbabwe, Lumumba said he was involved in shoddy and corrupt deals during his time in ZANU PF.

“People have been asking me why I’m denouncing corruption after I left ZANU PF, it is because I know it exists, I know what happens.

“I’m here today to tell it all, yes I was corrupt.  I was involved in corrupt deals and that is the reason why I’m coming out denouncing it,” said Lumumba before declaring that he had seen the light and is now a changed person.

The youthful politician said it all started after he was given a large sum of money for developmental projects which he put to personal use.

“I was given some money for helping the community, and I used some of it.  At first you feel guilty but before you know it, you sucked into the system and you start engaging in the most ridiculous corrupt activities,” Lumumba added.

He said ZANU PF was to blame for the collapse of the economy due to  selfish senior  government officials who are not concerned about the welfare of ordinary people.

Lumumba said it is time for youths to be active in politics and air out their concerns so as to improve their future.

“As VIVA, we are saying let youths decide their own destine by standing for what is right and what is not. We cannot expect old people to lead us and listen to what we want, they are not in sync with what youths wants.

Youths want jobs, food, a better future and what these old politicians do is sit on our future and do what pleases them. If we do not stand up and fight for our future then we are doomed, we are only shooting ourselves in the foot and letting our future and the future of our children down,” said the former Zimbabwe Youth Council chairman.

He went on to say many youths are being used by the ruling party ZANU PF, as they are used to engage in violence and attacking  innocent citizens, an act  which he claims prompted him to walk away from the ZANU PF.

“Youths are used and abused to pursue political dreams of politicians and get nothing for it. We condemn such acts of cowardice as VIVA Zimbabwe,” fumed Lumumba.
