Makamure’s Last Minute Attempt To Save ZACC Job Flops

Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) spokesman John Makamure who is being investigated over his alleged involvement in politics reportedly tried to seek audience with President Emmerson Mnangagwa to try and stop the setting up of a commission to look into his suitability to continue in office.

According to sources, Makamure allegedly went to Mnangagwa’s Precabe farm in the company of Gokwe Kabuyuni legislator Stephen Chuma but did not go past the gate as the Zanu PF leader had instructed security not to allow them in.

Mnangagwa has since appointed Retired Justice Cheda to lead the commission that is also composed of top lawyer Charles Warara and another person.

The commission is tasked with looking at Makamure’s suitability to continue being a ZACC commissioner based on alleged involvement in politics and undeclared interests in a non-governmental organisation named Southern Africa Parliamentary Support Trust (SAPST).

Unconfirmed reports indicate that Makamure is also being accused of seeking to contest the Gokwe Nembudziya National Assembly seat currently occupied by Justice Mayor Wadyajena.

“It apparently came to Makamure’s attention that a commission was to be established to investigate him for possible removal from office on Friday last wek. He then teamed up with Tshuma and attempted to meet with the president.

“So on Sunday, the two of them visited the president at the farm and tried to meet him. However, they were chased away at the gate after he (Mnangagwa) instructed security to turn them away as he did not want to see them. So their mission flopped,” the source said.

Efforts to get a comment from Makamure were fruitless as his phone went unanswered.
