Zanu PF activists burn houses in Makoni

Suspected ZANU PF activists on Tuesday night burnt seven houses, belonging Renewal Democrats of Zimbabwe  (RDZ) members.

By Philemon Jambaya

One of RDZ members, Solomon Makuwamombe who is a headmen in Makoni North said that Zanu PF activists targeted his homestead because he is a member of the opposition.

“This issue is political and these Zanu PF activists are fully aware that I am against the current leadership,” said Makuwamombe.

Another Headman, Robert Mukuwamombe confirmed this development saying that his spiteful dogs were the reason why his homestead was spared.

He added that his house was the main target but the intruders could not find a way through because of the vicious dogs at his homestead.

“These people were targeting my house, I was their main target but they failed to enter into my premises  because I have vicious dogs, they took almost an hour trying to intrude into the yard and they later gave up and went for other seven households of our RDZ members” said Makuwamombe.

It is said that Fanuel Mushayaranda, Taurai Mushayaranda and Tapiwa Mushayaranda were the brains behind this massive destruction of houses in Makoni.

When 263chat visited the area the trio were said to have been picked by the police for questioning at Inyathi police station.

Efforts to speak to the police were fruitless as their  phone went unanswered  .

The politically-orchestrated arson attack, blamed on Zanu PF saw two children surviving the senseless midnight attack.

“I was sleeping and I heard my grandchildren who were sleeping, crying for help. When I woke up the  house was  in flames,” said Ashonga who had one of her houses burnt.

Asa Ushe another victim of the arson attack said she has suffered enough at the hands of what she claimed were “Zanu PF militants”.

“This is Satanism at its highest level. I Have lost property worthy $2 500, I have also lost 10 bags of maize and 5 bags of groundnuts, I am left with nothing these people have killed me, I really don’t know how I am going to recover from this.” Said Ushe.

RDZ President Elton Mangoma, who visited the area, yesterday condemned the act and has urged the police to act swiftly.

“This is a terrible culture that need to be stopped very quickly, disagreements should be solved amicably, the police should act, if they do not act we will be disappointed” said Mangoma.

This is not the first time that Zanu PF activists have been fingered in  such politically motivated acts.

In 2013, a 12-year-old boy, Christpower Maisiri was set ablaze in a shocking case of political violence.
