Mine Accident Claims One In Zvishavane

A freaky accident Saturday night left one Mimosa Mining Company employee dead after he was hit on the head by a falling rock, the company has announced.

Tichaona Nedziwe (39) who was employed as Face Preparation Supervisor was killed in an underground accident that occurred at the mine near Zvishavane.

According to the company, Nedziwe was barring down in a supported area at 22 Level south when a rock fell and seriously injured him.

Although first aid was promptly administered as he was evacuated from the mine, Nedziwe passed on upon admission at the mine clinic.

Nedziwe is the latest casualty from mining-related deaths as last months, nine miners in Mazowe were killed in a disused mine after explosives were detonated while injuring several others.

In February, 28 illegal miners were also killed in Battlefields near Kadoma after torrential rains flooded the mining site.

Meanwhile, Mimosa has sent a message of condolences to the deceased family and reiterated that a full investigation is now underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the accident.
