Cholera Outbreak: Mimosa Mining Company on High Alert

Mimosa mining company is on high alert following recent cholera outbreak reports in Mt Darwin and Chiredzi with the company teaming up with the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare and local authorities to assist in combating the spread of the disease in communities they operate.

Addressing stakeholders at the 14th Mimosa Mining Company Long Service and Superior Performance Awards ceremony held last week, the group Managing Director Fungai Makoni said they have teamed up with their stakeholders for a series of programmes aimed at promoting healthy and responsible lifestyles in their communities.

“As Team Mimosa, we have been able to traverse a myriad of challenges to score numerous successes which have enabled us to be an envy of many in Zimbabwe and across the region. We continue to share the benefits of our extractive processes with the community, who are among our integral stakeholders.

“While our safety record remains solid and we continue to rally our workforce to remain vigilant in ensuring that safety underpins all processes. Our motto of Zero Harm is not only just a slogan but a reality we are determined to attain all the time.

“As cholera continues to threaten us, we urge you to assume your responsibility as active citizens of this country. Most recently, we teamed up with the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare and local authorities to land a hand in efforts aimed at combating the spread of cholera in the communities we operate.

“With the rainy season approaching we have partnered  various stakeholders including local radio station  YA FM for a series of programmes aimed at promoting healthy and responsible lifestyles in our communities,” he said.

Meanwhile Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing July Moyo who was the guest of honor hailed Mimosa for always heeding government calls to assist in infrastructural development, health among others.

“As Government, we have, over the years welcomed Mimosa’s philosophy of caring for its immediate and national communities, transforming the lives of those that it interacts with.

“The Company has always supported the various calls by Government to assist in infrastructural development, health, education and local enterprise development. Just earlier this year, Mimosa was among the members of the corporate sector who were instrumental in the fight against the cholera epidemic.

“Not only did the organization embark on a national drive to eradicate this malady, it also focused much of its ,attention on the Zvishavane community, from where it operates,” he said.
