South Africa’s songbird Yvonne Chaka Chaka will headline the inaugural Jacaranda Music Festival which will also feature Zimbabwe’s decorated musician Oliver Mtukudzi.
The festival organized by NgomaNeHosho Private Limited aimed at enhancing Harare’s arts and cultural scene through bringing people together and celebration is penciled for the 6th of October 2018 and will be held at the Hellenic Sports Club.
In a statement, festival director Walter Wanyanya expressed how impressed and proud he is with the diverse line-up expected to perform at the inaugural edition of JMF.
“We are proud to present a diverse and exciting top quality line-up with such legendary and established musicians and also to offer an opportunity for emerging acts to be seen,” he said.
Accompanying the two aforementioned legends will be another South African pop trendsetting group Micasa, “globe-trotting” Mokoomba and a catalog of local acts including Blessing Chimanga, Evicted, Mbeu and the Mhodzi Tribe, Gemma Griffiths, Norman Masamba, DJ Chucknosis, The Movement and Masa Caroline.
Wanyanya also highlighted on consultations they had with relevant authorities regarding the cholera epidemic and assured festival goers that measures have been put in place to curb any further spreading of the water-borne disease.
“We have had extensive consultations with the relevant authorities and they have given us the green-light to proceed. We will work with the Health and Safety department of the City of Harare and we will put in place measures to ensure that a high standard of hygiene is observed,” said Wanyanya.
The festival is sponsored by Mukuru money transfer company as well as Divine Sound Concerts and ZBC’s Power FM.
