Victoria Falls Man Remanded in Custody Over 450g Dagga Possession

A 20-year-old man from Victoria Falls, Gift Thabani Lunga, has been remanded in custody after appearing before the Victoria Falls Magistrates’ Court on charges of unlawful possession of dagga (cannabis).

According to court proceedings, Lunga was arrested following a police tip-off that led authorities to a house in Chinotimba on the night of April 22, 2025. There, officers were received by Sinikiwe Mangisai, reportedly the accused’s girlfriend, who was subsequently arrested.

A search of the premises uncovered 116 empty plastic sachets and a blue bag containing 83 sachets of loose dagga, with a total weight of 450 grams. The items were found laid out on a white blanket on the floor.

During police interrogation, Mangisai identified Lunga as the owner of the dagga. This revelation triggered a manhunt, which culminated in Lunga’s arrest on April 30, 2025, at a shebeen in Chinotimba.

The accused appeared in court on May 5, 2025, for routine remand proceedings. He remains in custody as the case continues.

Authorities have emphasised their commitment to cracking down on drug-related crimes, especially among youth in Victoria Falls and surrounding areas.
