Caps United close to clinching title

Caps United fans can start believing that maybe this year could be their year, maybe after a decade of toiling and disappointments, they can finally have something to cheer about and relieve the glory days once more.

After emerging 3-1 victors away to hapless Border Strikers yesterday, Caps United shot to the summit of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer league after long time leaders, F.C Platinum capitulated at the hands of disciplined Harare City on Saturday.

Leonard Tsipa scored the opener with a diving header as the veteran striker tightened the grip as the league’s top goal scorer.

The lead was short lived as Border Striker bounced back immediately when Farai Mususunye beat Caps United goalkeeper Jorum Muchambo.

Caps United restored the lead two minutes just before half time when Simba Nhivi took full advantage of Livingston failing to clear the ball at the back.

The Green Machine then put the match to bed in the 88th minute when Tafadzwa Rusike came off the bench to score the third and seal the maximum points.

The result sees CAPS United dismantle FC Platinum from the top of the log with only four matches to play.

The Platinum miners lost 2-1 to Harare City on Saturday and dented their hopes of having their name engraved on the floating trophy.

It was Bosso’s sixth consecutive win as they moved to within a point of fellow title rivals, F.C Platinum.

The two teams will cancel each other out meaning its advantage Caps United as they will be hoping for the two teams to draw.

Meanwhile, fading Harare giants, Dynamos had to settle for a draw against an industrious Hwange who shrugged off a midweek strike to secure much needed, moral boosting point.

Dynamos head coach Lloyd Mutasa was disappointed with the draw but remains hopeful of securing a top four finish although they will end their season without any silverware.

In other matches played over the weekend, At Barbourfields Stadium Bulawayo City secured a 1-0 win over Chicken Inn with Sipho Ndlovu scoring the goal in the 79th minute.
