MUTARE – A 22-year-old man from Odzi was sentenced to nine months in prison for having sexual intercourse with his 15-year-old juvenile girlfriend.

Maundike Zvikomborero of Stonedale farm was convicted on his own plea when he appeared before Mutare magistrate Perseverance Makala.
Maundike was charged with having sexual intercourse with a minor or young person.
Makala suspended two months on condition that Maundike does not commit a similar offence in the next five years.
Seven months imprisonment were further suspended on condition that he complete 245 hours of community service at Loshe Primary school.
It is the state’s case that in August last year, Maundike proposed love to the complainant, who accepted the love proposal.
In September 2018, Maundike had quality time with her juvenile girlfriend.
On the 13th of September in the same year at around 2200 hours, Maundike was caught red-handed with her juvenile girlfriend by the complainant’s uncle at her sister’s residence and he fled from the scene.
The girl made a police report the following morning leading to Maundike’s arrest.
She was medically examined and found to have had sexual intercourse with Maundike.
Maundike will start community service on the 15th of February 2019.
