‘Stop Throwing Your Weight Around’, Moyo Chides Obert Mpofu

Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Professor Jonathan Moyo has reportedly hit back at the Umguza legislator and Zanu PF Central Committee member, Obert Mpofu, calling his recent comments that the Tsholotsho legislator was working in cahoots with Kasukuwere to destabilize the ruling party as “reckless, irresponsible, disrespectful and unacceptable.”

Moyo took to Twitter, to launch an attack after Mpofu had accused the Higher and Tertiary Education Minister, of working in cahoots with embattled Zanu PF National Political Commissar, Saviour Kasukuwere in setting up parallel structures to destabilise the ruling party and conniving to undermine the authority of the First Lady, Grace Mugabe.

In a thinly veiled attack on Mpofu, Moyo took a dig at the former Mines Minister, accusing him of throwing his weight around and abusing his power in the Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) in Matebeleland North.

“Mpofu abused PCC, as he so often does, in mistaken belief that just because he has a big body he should throw his weight around.

“Obert Mpofu believes he is the Zanu PF PCC in Mat North… This rot of his has gone on for too long and too far. Mpofu is a colleague in Politburo, and not my boss. If he does not respect this fact, he must prepare for the consequences,” said Mpofu.

This comes after Mpofu had said the Mat North province would deliberate on Moyo’s use of social media to address party issues.

Mpofu said there were some elements within the ruling party who were against President Mugabe’s orders and had pledged to deal with the matter as he revealed that he had received enquires about Moyo from the Mat North PCC

However, Moyo would have none of it saying Mpofu was pretending to be at the centre of power in the Province.

“I for one will not allow Obert Mpofu to impersonate King Lobengula, pretending to be Matabeleland North’s centre of power,” openly said Moyo who is no stranger to battles with his fellow ruling party members.

Jonathan Moyo said Mpofu’s claim to be the obedient son, were a gimmick used to cover up for his greedy exploits and they have never fooled anyone.

He further accused Mpofu of being an opportunist who is in a quest to impress “successionist” interests in hope of securing a position in” their treacherous ranks”

Moyo , who together with Kasukuwere are believed to be ring leaders of a factional group, G40, within the Zanu PF party, categorically denied of conniving with the troubled Zanu PF NPC in working to overthrow President Mugabe and or setting parallel structures to destabilise the ruling party.

He, however, said contrary to reports, he has been working for the development of the party.

“To accuse Kasukuwere, of all people, of setting up parallel ZPF structures to topple Mugabe wickedly is preposterous and hogwash.

“I wish to say that I have worked with Cde Kasukuwere, sometimes around the clock, supporting and serving President Mugabe and Zanu PF.

“Kasukuwere did his duty and did it beyond its call.(I am) Proud of work  I have done with SK (Simon Khaya Moyo) in support of Pres. (sic), Party, government and country

“It would be a great honor for me to be charged for doing that work by well known, shameless and greedy Judas Iscariot (Mpofu),” vented Moyo.

He, once again, took a swipe at state media which he accused of fanning factional agendas and fights.

“Only aliens from outer space still don’t know that state newspapers have become successionist broadsheets in the streets.

“Like everyone else, Kasukuwere can make mistakes, not least because he is too loyal, too committed & works very hard for Party,” Moyo said in defence of his ally and classmate at the University of Zimbabwe law school.

This is the latest edition in the succession and factional fights which have seen purges within the ruling party.

Kasukuwere’s political career hangs in the balance as the purging axe is hovering his after all the country’s 10 provinces endorsed his ouster following allegations of setting parallel structures surfaced.
