Three UZ Students Perish In A Car Accident

Three students from the University of Zimbabwe died on Friday when a car they were travelling in was involved in an accident along Samora Machel Avenue in Harare.

According to reports from UZ, the deceased were part of 11 students who were coming from a night out at a local club when their car overturned and rolled three times before landing on its roof leaving eight people injured.

Eyewitnesses said the driver of the CRV vehicle was speeding and failed to stop at a traffic light along Samora Machel Avenue.

Accident survivor only identified as Masara said “the driver was speeding and at some point almost crossed a red robot when he hit the emergency brakes, the second time it happened he lost control of the car and it flipped and rolled over,”

One of the three deceased died on the spot while the other two were proclaimed dead upon admission at Avenues Clinic.

The other seven are believed to be recuperating at local hospitals.

However, the Police could not confirm the accident as Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi said he was not aware of the accident.

The deceased have since been named as Simbarashe Mucheuki, Godwin Makuza and Simba Mudzengi.

Meanwhile the UZ Student Representative Council (SRC) has sent messages of condolences to the families of the deceased.
