70 hours community service for Gomwe

Former ZANU PF Youth Chairperson, Godwin Gomwe, has been  sentenced to 70 hours of community service for  insulting and calling a Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) agent a “Gamatox”.

Harare magistrate Takunda Mtetwa sentenced Gomwe, expelled Zanu PF Harare province Youth League chairman to 70 hours of community service on a charge of insulting CIO agent and Zanu PF member Abraham Samushonga during a telephone conversation.

Gomwe is also said to have insulted Winnie Madekufamba, the Executive of the Zimbabwe Liberation War Collaborators Association (ZILIWACO), during the ruling party’s National Congress in December last year.

In so doing Gomwe contravened Section 88 (c) of the Postal and Telecommunications Act.

Gomwe who is meant to perform the community service at a school in Budiriro in Harare, is however disputing the sentence and has indicated that he will seek a high court appeal.

“Through my lawyer, John Ndomene I will file for a High Court appeal against this ruling,” said Gomwe.

In another case, Gomwe  and eight other people are facing extortion charges.
