Chungwa Does it For Makepekepe

2016 Premier Soccer League champions, Caps United on Sunday (17 September) won city bragging rights following their one nil victory over perennial rivals Dynamos in a lifeless encounter which had both teams creating very few chances.

Caps United did not waste time and could have bagged a goal or two in the first five minutes, had Phineas Bhamusi and Tonderai Mateunga converted their chances.

With Dynamos missing the services of suspended striker Christian Joel Epoupa Ntouba, Tawanda Macheka got a rare opportunity to lead the Dembare frontline but the Cameroonian shoes proved too big as the young foward failed to impose himself on the game.

Macheka was generally quite throughout the whole match, failing to create chances. His partner Quality Kangadzi who was coming from injury managed to keep Makepekepe defender, Steven Makatuka busy the whole game.

After missing the first edition of the Harare Derby, Dominic Chungwa proved why the Green Machine struggled against Dembare. Chungwa who has been Caps United’s best player so far, managed break the impasse in the 64th minute with his goal seperating the two sides.

After the match, Dynamos coach, Lloyd Mutasa bemoaned missed chances saying it would have been a different story had his boys been clinical.

“We win as a team, we lose as a team, that’s the game of football, but we should have buried those scoring chances we had but it’s now water under the bridge and we now need to move on and concentrate on our next game on Thursday against Chapungu,” said Mutasa.

The former PC Platinum coach could not be drawn into blaming the result on the absence of senior players saying clubs are allowed to register 30 players who can play in any match.

With the PSL season now going into week 26, Bulawayo side Chicken Inn are still in pole position with 51 points followed by FC Platinum who are also on 51 points. Dynamos and Ngezi Platinum occupy the third and four position with 49 points.

Dynamos will go top on Thursday should they maintain or extend their 4-0 advantage when they go back to finish their abandoned match against the airforce side Chapungu FC.
