MDC-T Bulawayo Clashes Perpetrated By Hired Mercenaries

Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) Youth Assembly National Spokesperson, Advocate Brian Dube has distanced the party from the violence that rocked Bulawayo recently saying it was perpetrated by mercenaries hired from South Africa.

Addressing journalist in Gweru recently, Dube said ‘thugs’ were hired and transported from South Africa with the sole purpose to cause chaos in Bulawayo adding that investigations into the violent episode will not be over until the perpetrators are brought to book.

“They were arrested (Bulawayo Provincial executive) for having been beaten up by strangers whom we are still investigating and we have been assured by the police that they are making follow ups because we now have indicators that some of them were actually hired thugs from South Africa.

“We have been assured by the Law and Order in Bulawayo that they are making efforts but if there is any one member of our party who was involved in any violence they will actually be dealt with accordingly,” Dube said.

He however accused Bulawayo police of bias saying they arrested victims including the provincial chairperson whose office was invaded by the hired mercenaries.

“The violence in Bulawayo was actually perpetrated against the Bulawayo Provincial members, but due to police bias we were actually shocked to find out that the same Chairperson whose office was invaded by strangers was the one being charged for violence,” he said.

The MDC-T witnessed a spate of violence following the death of founding President, Morgan Tsvangirai as the succession battle reared its ugly head.

Dube also denied the MDC-T involvement in Buhera violence saying it was perpetrated by ‘non-MDC-T individuals adding that the issue was dramatized.’

“The MDC is not a violent party and in relation to Buhera, we are not aware of any violence that actually relates to the MDC members accept for the dramatized issues.

“We only heard it in the media but what I can tell you is that they were few incidences dramatized, maybe booing by a few group of individuals who we cannot even confirm to be MDC members,” Dube said.
