Ryan Koriya Launches Independent Record Label, Announces Artist Mentorship Program and Various Upcoming Releases
On the backdrop of his international #DIStour, Zimbabwean singer-songwriter, and producer Ryan Koriya is pleased to announce the launch of his independent record label Runway Vertical Records from his current base Ibiza, Spain.
The record label serves as a full circle moment for Koriya who has built an authentic career as a one-man band, managing his music independently and weaving the different facets of his talent into a solid brand. [R and V are interestingly also his own initials with V being the first letter of one of his two middle names].
Runway Vertical (RV) is the product of years of self-reflection, trying different avenues and ultimately realizing that the Ryan Koriya brand is best represented through a distinctive platform that also represents his other brands with a similar vision.
The record label name comes as no surprise to fans that are privy to Koriya’s love for aviation. RV is kicking things off with three new signings, ‘I See Hearts’ being his persona for Passion Folk music, a Passion Pop persona is to be announced soon and the third deal is for Ryan Koriya as himself.
To celebrate the launch, Koriya is offering fans an unreleased Neo-Reggae track Who Am I? An ode to Zimbabweans’ love for dancehall music, the track is a soft reggae-infused tune reminiscent of retro Bob Marley.
Koriya is also proud to announce his new roles as a music consultant and artist development mentor using his wealth of experience from the industry to help artists the world over navigate the ever-evolving and complex music business.
Koriya’s musical career spans over 15 years, producing quality music that speaks to the soul. Making waves since his high school days at Prince Edward School, he has gone on to make a name for himself on an international stage touring in over 12 countries on average annually over the past 6 years.
Koriya has shared the stage with acts like Tuku, Tinashe (Rationale), Rozalla and most recently Dance Music legends Bob Sinclar and Roger Sanchez in Ibiza.
He has performed at many festivals including Zimbabwe’s very own Zimfest, Miombo Magic, Rock Down Harare and of course Vic Falls New Year’s Carnival to name a few. With 2 EPs and a few singles to his name, Koriya is excited to be releasing more music than he has ever released within the next year alone, thanks to his newly created record label.
Koriya says this about the next phase of his career…
“Being an artist is like being a pilot. You have this talent and all these dreams but they tend to rely on waiting for someone else’s permission and assistance to take off. By creating my own label, I am essentially guaranteeing that my music gets access to a runway so it can take off and fly at any time that I choose and as many times as I need. It’s a very empowering feeling and that is why part of my mission is to empower fellow artists the world over to do the same for themselves! That is what the music business v.2019 looks like to me… The Artist CEO.”
Koriya has created a closed Facebook group called ‘Afronauts Music Academy’ where you are invited to apply for entry in order to gain access to his wealth of knowledge for free. Such specialist expertise is usually hard to find and costs money to plug into, unfortunately thus keeping struggling artists down by default.
