Zimbabwe to field strong sides against Pakistan

After narrowly losing the unofficial One Day International series against Pakistan A, Zimbabwe will shift their attention to the four day matches set for Queens Sports Club starting this weekend.

With focus on the upcoming Tri Series against Sri Lanka and the West Indies, Zimbabwe will use the Pakistan four day series as a competitive practice match to fine tune its squad.

In a statement, Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) said they will field a strong side against the stubborn Asian side.

“Zimbabwe A will field strong sides against Pakistan A in the two four-day matches to be played in Bulawayo. The first four-day match is scheduled to start this Sunday.

“With the Test series at home to Sri Lanka only days away, it is therefore not surprising that the selectors have opted to give the senior international players a run out against Pakistan A,” ZC said.

The 12-man squad for the first four-dayer will be led by the national team Captain Graeme Cremer and only three of the players  ,Malcolm Waller, Chris Mpofu and Brian Vitori were not part of the Zimbabwe Test side against New Zealand in July and August this year.

While the Zimbabwe A squad for second four-day match, scheduled for 15 to 18 October, includes the other seven players who were part of the side that faced New Zealand, the young trio of Tarisai Musakanda, Carl Mumba and Victor Nyauchi has been rewarded for their impressive performances with the national development team.

Former Zimbabwe captain Elton Chigumbura is in the second-match squad and will be hoping to impress and push for a return to the national fold after missing the New Zealand Test series.

Both Zimbabwe A and Pakistan A left for Bulawayo on Thursday, less than 24 hours after the conclusion of their one-day series which the tourists narrowly won 3-2.
