Inside Hip Hop: Kara’s Career Profile

Kara ( ‘JechaKoso J.K) real name, Mazvita Helen Samushonga is a female rapper based in Budiriro Harare.She was born in Mutare.

She started writing music in 2011 and then started to do rap music in 2015 as an underground artist till late 2016 when she released her first track ‘Bout Me’ which was recorded by he brother Quinton.

In an interview with 263Chat, Kara said, “That song was the first step to my music career and because of the choice i had previously made i set to heal myself using my music putting the joy, pain, anger of the past and present into it. I chose to use hip hop because it was the only avenue i was familiar with to express myself said Kara

“My music seeks to highlight societal problems matters of women empowerment, poverty, unemployment, what it is like to be a female in an industry dominated by males to mention but a few.”

She added that, “I use the 90’s hip hop feel with a twist of modern rap yet being local and aggressive in nature and I decided to use a mixture of Shona (venec), English with a hint of Chimanyika so as to maintain the roots of where i come from, where my supporters come from so that people from all circles can relate to it.

“My music carry influences from Lauryn Hill, Mc Lyte ,Tupac ,B.I.G, Kendrik Lamar ,The Game and locally GZE, Tulk Munny , Junior Brown and Tehn Diamond.

“In my latest work i have released an album tilted #0101 the 0’z define the losses which i have encountered including those in the future and the 1’nz define the wins i have accomplished and all that i have set to accomplish. The album contains 7 tracks.”

Kara has performed at the 2017 Carnival, Street HipHop Tours, Changamire Hiphop Festival as well as opening for Mc Chita during his first album launch.

She reckoned that her album paved way for me to be nominated as the Best Female Rapper ZimHipHop Awards 2017 which she says was honor considering that she has not been in the music industry for a long time.

Kara is already working on promoting her new project and is looking to build her brand JechaKoso in-order to attract corporate sponsorship and endorsement deals.

“I am also set to venture into event organizing for next year and currently looking for meaningful endorsements and sponsorship which will be in line with my values and the brand JechaKoso” said Kara
