Mathema’s Intelligence Expose, Fake: MDC

The opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) has described as fake, government claims that they have unmasked a planned agenda by the civil society organizations working in cahoots with unnamed foreign nationals to effect regime change.

Addressing the media in the capital yesterday, Home Affairs minister Cain Mathema said security forces have unearthed a scheme by civic society organizations who are bent on mobilizing and capacitating the citizenry for the purposes of rebellion.

“It is disturbing to note that the ZRP and other security services have gathered intelligence to the effect that a group of foreign nationals want to facilitate a three-day civic organization workshop in Bulawayo in May 2019,” he said.

In response, MDC spokesperson, Jacob Mafume said the government’s discoveries are just but fake, whose agenda is to crush dissent as the state feels insecure with mass protests looming amid economic collapse.

“We mentioned this before that Zimbabwe is captured by very dangerous group of people, who are relational, unreasonable, and paranoid and will do anything to crush dissent in pursuit of their power retention agenda.

“In his press conference  Mathema claimed that he had gathered intelligence to the effect that there was a workshop meant to plot overthrowing the government.

“Similar fake intelligence reports have been used before to target members of the opposition and CSOs leaders like Rashid Mahiya,” Mafume said.

Meanwhile, the MDC said it is not moved by the minister’s threats as the party fully understand the constitutional guaranteed right of the citizenry to peacefully protest against displeasures government has brought to the people of Zimbabwe.

Mafume added that the Zanu PF led government is responsible for the misery people face today and part of the plight has been deliberately created with an objective to degenerate the country into chaos hence an opportune for the state to eliminate dissent.
