A leaked internal memo has revealed a sharp warning from Batsirai Joel Matiza, who was recently reinstated as Chairman of Argus Group as tensions rise ahead of a crucial April 10 meeting in Lualaba.
The memo, which has circulated among insiders and been echoed by members aligned with Matiza, cautions former board members and other stakeholders against interfering in the group’s affairs.
Those familiar with the communication describe its tone as firm and unyielding.
“There is a reason why those few are former. I hope they maintain integrity for the sake of peace,” Matiza states in the memo.
The warning comes at a time of growing disagreement within the group over a proposed shift in the direction of Schedule 2.
Matiza is expected to push for strategic investments to be redirected from the Democratic Republic of Congo to Zimbabwe at the Lualaba meeting—an idea that has divided opinion internally.
Concerns have also been raised over security arrangements for the meeting.
According to the memo, Argus has brought in a South Africa-based private military company but protection will only be provided to selected members, those backing Matiza’s position.
Others are expected to attend without similar security.
