‘VP Mohadi Assaults Ex Wife In Police Presence’

Vice President Kembo Mohadi’s ex-wife Tambudzani Bhudagi-Mohadi has filed an assault complaint against estranged husband, Kembo Mohadi at the Beitbridge police station in what could prove to be a big test to the country’s rule of law.

The Senator made a statement to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), Beitbridge alleging that her ex husband assaulted her at her residence in the border town.

The assault is alleged to have happened in April 2019 when Mohadi forcefully took three cars from his ex wife in the presence of about 25 police officers.

Tambudzanai reported the matter at Beitbridge Police station but she has not received any update since then.

“The Senator advises that she has faced serious challenges in reporting the matter and obtaining the status of the police investigations. Since April 2019, the Senator has requested for updates on the police investigations to no avail,” Senator Tambudzanai’s representatives wrote.

Her lawyers are seeking verification from the police on whether a docket was opened with regards to the complaint made.

“As the responsible authority, we seek confirmation on whether any appropriate criminal investigations into the Vice President’s behaviour have been conducted and whether any appropriate criminal charges have been or will be levelled against him,”said the lawyers representing the Beitbridge Senator in a letter.

The Mohadi’s divorce case has made headlines since September 2018 when the then security minister petitioned the High Court in Bulawayo seeking a divorce claiming his marriage to Tambudzani had irretrievably broken down.

On August 10 this year , he also was granted a protection order against Tambudzanai by the Civil Court in Harare.
