Multimedia: Mugabe urged to dualise Harare-Beitbridge highway

Zanu PF youth on Saturday challenged President Mugabe to speed up the dualisation of the Harare-Beitbridge highway.

The highway which is the busiest in Zimbabwe is in a calamitous state and has claimed many lives due to its horrible state.

Speaking at President Mugabe’s birthday bash held in Masvingo, youth league national commissar, Innocent Hamandishe said dualising the road will curb carnage.

“Shefu (Mugabe) we have been told that a quantum that was coming to your birthday celebrations was been involved in a car accident killing one person on the spot.

“We are told that the vehicle which veered off the road in Chivhu, was carrying your supporters from Bindura.

“In light of this development we kindly request that you act promptly to ensure that the road is dualised to avoid more deaths,” he said.

Meanwhile a South African man identified as Julius Tingwe was involved in an accident after his Lexus vehicle veered off the road and rammed several trees approximately 2km away from Mvuma.

A Mvuma based police officer who spoke on conditions of anonymity said the accident was caused by speeding.

“The car was obviously speeding leading to the deceased’s failure to control the car upon reaching the curve.

  • That road badly needs widening. A limit on speed should also be practiced by motorists using this road. Otherwise, accidents are most likely to happen. My thoughts and prayers go out to Tingwe’s family.

  • Julias you left us so early my brother. Only you who know what happen.
