Takura Revisits His Breakthrough Moment

Zimbabwe’s king of new school hip-hop, Takura has revealed a heart-rending details on his journey to stardom including how he sacrificed his fancy mobile phone just to raise enough money for recording of his Extended play (EP).

In an exclusive interview with 263Chat on the sidelines of the Music Business Series Workshop last week, Takura, long dubbed the glimmering hope for Zimhip-hop in a Zimdancehall dominated showbiz arena, revisited his first encounter with multi award-winning producer, Oskid who produced his first offering that kick-started his career.

“My journey started when I created the group Soul Africa with my best friend. I had to sacrifice my fancy phone to Dj Oskid to have him producing our first Extended play (EP) of up to eight tracks,” he said.

Takura added that the phone he traded off was his dearest asset at the time but he sacrificed it to realize a bigger dream.

“I had just come from South Africa and I had brought a fancy phone with me, the drive I had made me give it up because as much as I loved my phone I knew I would get back more phones. I felt I had so much to offer to the world and a contrast of the phone to a dream I had, the phone was nothing,” said Takura.
