VP Chiwenga Airlifted To China For Further Medical Tests

Vice president, Constantino Chiwenga has been airlifted from South Africa to China for further medical treatment amid indications that he is recovering from an undisclosed ailment.

Chiwenga has not appeared in public for over three months raising anxiety across the nation over his condition and whereabouts.

In a statement released this afternoon, the Deputy Chief Secretary in the Office of the President and Cabinet, George Charamba said Chiwenga left for the Asian country where he will be attended to by a consortium of Zimbabwean, South African, Indian and Chinese medical experts.

“Following last week’s Presidential statement on Vice President CGDN Chiwenga’s health and recovery status, the Office of the President and Cabinet wishes to inform the nation that the Vice President this week left for the People’s Republic of China where he is set to undergo further medical tests,”

“His relocation to China, which builds on the satisfactory recovery progress he has been making, follows weekend discussions at the highest level between Governments of Zimbabwe and China at which a decision was taken to allow Chinese medical experts to join their counterparts from Zimbabwe, South Africa and India in attending to the Vice President,”

“The Office will keep the nation updated on the progress the Vice President continues to make towards full recovery,” said Cde Charamba.

This has however spelt another wave of speculation regarding Chiwenga’s health following President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s utterances last week that the powerful vice president was on recovery course.
