Algerian Police Crush Zim Students Demo Against Non-Payment of Stipends

Zimbabwean students studying on government scholarship in Algeria are currently being chased away from the Zimbabwe Embassy in Algiers where they were demonstrating against the non payment of their stipends for over 15 months.

The Algerian police is using force on the students, some of whom have been sleeping outside the embassy for 2 nights.

Some students who spoke to 263 Chat said they have resorted to unorthodox ways of surviving, with female students being the most affected as some have reportedly turning into sex work to cope with the hardship they have had to endure since government stopped paying their stipends.

This comes days after government promised to deal with the issue of stipends for students studying abroad.
