After 900 minutes of riveting football the results are in—debutants MWOS are top of the log after ten games, surprising many by going unbeaten with six wins and four draws amassing 22 points out of a possible 30.
This season’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League has offered no shortage of drama.
With title favorites stuttering and underdogs soaring, the battle for supremacy has been anything but predictable.
One of the standout individual performers so far has been TelOne FC’s Washington Navaya, who has found the back of the net eight times in just ten games.
His red-hot form has made him a top contender for the Golden Boot.
But while teams like MWOS and TelOne are impressing some of the traditional football powerhouses are faltering.
Former Dynamos and CAPS United midfield general Oscar Machapa says the absence of true leaders on the pitch is costing the big clubs dearly.
“I think it’s tough and exciting because of the competitiveness—there are no more small teams. Every team is prepared for battle,” Machapa told 263chat.com
“I think our powerhouse clubs lack leaders on the pitch—someone who can take responsibility and carry the team on his shoulders. Right now, we have average players who can’t change the game when it matters most.” he added
Former Dynamos goalkeeper Artwell “Dida” Mukandi echoed similar sentiments highlighting the need for structural stability—particularly at Dynamos.
“Mwos have been doing a great job quietly. No one gave them a chance, and that removed pressure from them.
“Scotland has done well so far, and the experience within the players and coaching staff is giving them an edge.” said Mukandi.
He also had praise for defending champions Simba Bhora who continue to look sharp despite key player exits.
“Simba Bhora will probably retain their championship status. They’re doing great even after losing a number of players.” he said
Highlanders, another traditional giant, have shown signs of resurgence.
“Highlanders are on the rise—they started slowly, but they’re picking up form now. The second half of the season will be tight.” Mukandi said
As for this season’s surprise package, Mukandi singled out TelOne.
“TelOne has been the surprise package of the season. Anything can happen with them, but a top 4 or 5 finish looks guaranteed.”
He concluded with a hopeful note for CAPS United and a warning for Dynamos.
“As for CAPS United, they’ll start picking up points if Deco comes in. Dynamos, on the other hand, will remain down there until they get their house in order,” Mukandi
With the season approaching its midpoint fans can expect more twists and turns as the title race continues to defy expectations.
