The Movement for Democratic Change (MDC)’s 5th congress came to an end in Gweru this afternoon with results from the election of the party’s main wing curving a dramatic return of its prodigal sons.
Party president Nelson Chamisa was returned as leader following a unanimous endorsement.
Notably, prodigal sons to the movement, Tendai Biti and Professor Welshman Ncube were voted to deputize Chamisa with Lynette Kore coming in to complete the triumvirate of deputies.
This saw party stalwarts Elias Mudzuri and Morgan Komichi spurn wayside on the deputy presidents’ race.
Thabitha Khumalo returned to the post of National Chairperson, deputized by yet another prodigal son to the party, Zengeza legislator, Job Sikhala while Charlton Hwende beat Douglas Mwonzora to the Secretary General Post.
David Coltart, who once defected from the Morgan Tsvangirai Headquartered version of MDC is the new party Treasurer.
Outside of the main wing elections which took place today, the women’s league and Youth League elections presided over the weekend.
