Silencer to silence critics

Upcoming conscious-reggae artiste, real name Mercy Ngwenya is set to release an eight track album which she says will silence those who doubt her potential.

The 21 year old musician from Budiriro said most people are stereotypical when it comes to female artists who venture into reggae music.

“People do not really embrace female musicians who are into this genre, they seem to be a  skeptical and we are labelled all sorts of names. I’m here to silence them and demystify that notion.

As a result, I have come up with a singles compilation which is a mixture of social facts and some love songs,” she said.

The singles compilation is due for release on July 7 2017.

The bubbly musician said the pressures of the expectations of the society have made molded her into a woman she is today.

“ I stand for righteousness, and people always try to judge one’s character that’s why I thrive to stand for what is right, I always want to do the right thing, I have seen life so I’m scared of messing up.” said Silencer.

The singles compilation has songs like “Nherera” where she laments the life of orphans and the ill-treatment they are subjected to. There is “Zvakuda Imimi” which is a prayer for help from God.

Silencer says her music captures the attention of people across all social spheres due to the message portrayed through her lyrics which are rich in tackling social issues.

She took time to urge all female artists who want to thrive in the reggae genre to never give up but remain resolute in achieving their dream.

“If it wasn’t for my determination, I would not be where I’m. It’s not that I have done much seeing that I started singing fulltime in January 2016 and hard work is paying off.

I also urge my dear sisters to never stop pursuing their dream, they should not look down upon themselves but they should know their boundaries,” she added.

For silencer, the sky is the limit as she wants to be recognized as the first conscious-reggae legend in the country a feet which she could achieve if she continues to be on the track that she is.

She draws inspiration from the late Chiwoniso Maraire and Jamaican superstar Queen Omega and wishes to work with Dudu Manhenga and Oliver Mtukudzi in the future.
