Former opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa has reignited debate around the country’s struggling healthcare system.
Chamisa posted a video filmed at a sleek state-of-the-art Chinese hospital using it as a springboard to imagine a radically improved health sector in Zimbabwe.
He declared that the country can transform its hospitals into world-class centers of excellence.
“#JustImagine our hospitals being equipped with the latest technologies and modern equipment. First class health facilities and cutting-edge hospital infrastructure is a leadership task. The tone is set at the top,” he said
Chamisa said he envisions a future where Zimbabwe becomes a global destination for medical tourism.
“Zimbabwe will be known for medical tourism. We will be renowned as a healing nation. Yes, a healthy nation and a healed people. It’s possible. We will do it,” Chamisa added.
His post comes amid widespread concerns over the country’s struggling health sector where hospitals often face chronic shortages of drugs, equipment, and staff.
Recently, the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Tinomuda Machakaire torched a storm when he bemoaned the state of public hospitals and called on President Emmerson Mnangagwa to visit the institutions and have a first hand feel of the situation.
His critics, however, question the feasibility of such ambitions given that he retired from active politics to which he said “I’m not a politician. I’m a transformer. I’m a nation builder. I’m a peace builder.”
Others hailed the post as inspirational and forward-looking. “This is the leadership mindset we need,” one user commented.
