Opposition activists tormented by ZANU PF supporters

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) officials and activists who were attacked by ruling ZANU PF supporters in Kwekwe early this month are being tormented and victimized.

Nyasha Victoria Chamunorwa a CCC communications department official and other women activists were badly injured after being attacked by at least 16 ZANU PF youths who stormed CCC’s rally early this month has been forced to leave their homes

This was the second were the newly formed opposition movement disrupted by violent clashes since it’s formation in January this year.

At least 16 ZANU PF activists linked to state security minister, Owen Ncube were arrested over the Kwekwe violence.

CCC legislator for Kwekwe Central Judith Tobaiwa confirmed that after the March 26 By-elections Nyasha Victoria Chamurwa, Gamuchirai Chitima, Melody Matambo and Nancy Muronda are being victimized.

“I am deeply concerned by the continued victimization of our officials and party supporters by ZANU PF thugs here in Kwekwe especially these ladies their crime is only attending a rally which was addressed by our leader Advocate Nelson Chamisa,” Tobaiwa said.

“For instance Nyasha had to be hospitalized and she’s currently nursing injuries from that ordeal.
Nyasha faced continued harassment even at her place of residence as ZANU PF thugs and militia were doing a crackdown on them,” Tobaiwa added.

Police spokesperson Paul Nyathi promised to comment about the matter, and is yet to respond to our inquiries.

However Nyasha’s family says they’re now worried about the persistent visits by state agents at their home and Nyasha’s close friends and family members who would at times have to be harrased as the militia would be seeking Nyasha’s whereabouts.

Election Resource Center (ERC) has condemned the harassment and urges the police to investigate saying perpetrators must be brought to book.
