Self-surrendered Fraudster Faces Court Over Mbudzi Interchange Scam

Levy Idana, accused of swindling the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development out of US$200,000.00, turned himself in to the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC).

His legal counsel, Arshiel Mugiya of Mugiya Law Chambers escorted him. He faces charges of fraud for allegedly making a bogus claim for compensation for a property that was impacted by the construction of a multi-level interchange at Mbudzi roundabout.

According to the prosecution, Idana conspired with Ernest Shenje, the Deputy Director of the Road Services Division in the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development, who has already been arrested and arraigned in court, to forge a fake sale agreement.

They falsely claimed to the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development that Idana owned Subdivision A of Subdivision B of Delft of Hopely, which belonged to John Maloney.

They used the fabricated agreement of sale to seek compensation because Idana had bought the property from John Maloney.

Due to this deceitful claim, Idana received US$200,000.00. He is due to appear in court today, 6 February, 2024.
