Govt Denies Blocking Magombeyi’s SA Trip

Government has denied reports that the Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors Association leader, Dr Peter Magombeyi is being blocked from seeking specialised medical attention outside the country in South Africa saying the police still want to carryout thorough investigations into his alleged abduction.

Addressing the media at the Munhumutapa offices in Harare today, Information minister Monica Mutsvangwa said government wants Magombeyi’s case to be investigated to allow justice to prevail.

”The police are not blocking Magombeyi to go and seek medication, this case is an alleged abduction case and the police are working so hard to arrest these abductors and they want justice to prevail,” she said.

Mutsvangwa appeared to suggest that Magombeyi’s alleged abduction was fake claiming that on the night in question, the youthful doctors union leader told his friends that he was going for an all night prayer while also informing his father that he was going out for drinks with friends.

“Magombeyi left his room and told his friend that he was going for an all night prayer, he told his father that he was going out for drinks with friends but later sent a massage that he was abducted by three men.

“When he was later found in Nyabira, he was sounding jovial and when the police went to escort him he was always on the phone,” added Mutsvangwa.

Magombeyi was abducted on the 14th of September and was found five days later after being dumped in Nyabira, 30 kilometres out of Harare.

Prior to his abduction he had reportedly received death threats from an unknown mobile phone number, a case which he reported to the police.

Yesterday, police caused a scene at the Avenues Clinic after blocking Magombeyi from leaving for South Africa where he was set to receive specialized medical attention.

This was despite an earlier High Court order sought by his lawyers barring the police from interfering with his planned trip.
