CEOs To Tackle Emerging Challenges To Harare’s Property Market

This year’s edition of the CEO Africa Roundtable slated for Victoria Falls is set to seek solutions to emerging challenges to Harare’s property market that is faced with limited available land for expansion, 263Chat Business can reveal.

This year’s event will run between the 11th and 14th of October attracting various stakeholders from academia, media, business and politics among others.

Harare, being the capital city of Zimbabwe has undergone substantial growth in infrastructural development in the past five years, with so much potential lying evident for further development.

But with pressure on land availability in existing built-up areas and areas with access to services, the City of Harare is under pressure to expand vertically and into new areas.

The market is poised for a huge leapfrog as more and more Zimbabweans realize the storage value of property and the emergence of mixed-use developments from trusted property developers.

“By 2030 there would be a massive change in the present urban landscape through urban renewal and development of new areas and cities within cities. They will effectively change the service delivery matrix of the local authority because the communities will have their own water, green energy, refuse collection and security,” said CEO ART in a written statement.

However, it faces many difficulties in becoming a modern metropolis, including limited land area, antiquated service infrastructure, and low returns on infrastructure investments among others.

Discussing some of these issues will be property developer Ken Sharpe who is CEO and Chairman of West Properties, Patience Patongamwoyo – Licensee and Principal Registered Agent, Seeff Properties and Richard Matengambiri – Managing Director, Rawson Properties.

However Harare has seen the emergence of smart cities with property developers such as West Properties coming up with some exciting infrastructure projects such as Pomona City.

Dubbed a city within a city because of its attributes that bring all urban aspects of live, work, shop and play into one community, Pomona City is set to be a major prototype development that would be copied and replicated by other developers
