Mutsvangwa down and out

Embattled War Veterans Minister Christopher Mutsvangwa, who last week was slapped with a three year suspension from Zanu PF over allegations of indiscipline has lost his position as chairman of the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA).

State media reported that former freedom fighters cannot be led by someone who has been suspended from the party.

Speaking to The Herald, Welfare Services for War Veterans, War Collaborators, Former Political Detainees and Restrictees Minister Retired Colonel Tshinga Dube said war veterans are set to hold  an a meeting  to elect a new leader following Mutsvangwa’s suspension from zanu-pf for three years for gross misconduct and disloyalty.

Mutsvangwa who will remain a National Assembly representative told Newsday that he does not care for his Cabinet and former politburo positions. He said he was content to be Norton MP and ZLWVA chairperson.

Mutsvangwa was suspended for convening a war veterans meeting without informing President Mugabe, who is the war veterans patron. His wife Monica was also slapped with three-year suspension for allegedly undermining First Lady Grace Mugabe.

The pruning of Mnanagwa allies  is a major blow to team Lacoste, a faction affiliated to VP Mngangwa in the race to succeed President Mugabe.
