A Night of Glamour at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe

From the Romantic Era, the renowned poet and painter, William Blake once wrote on the intertwining relationships of the cosmos, and the universal conventions of habitat and the compassion that it attached therein;  The bird a nest, the spider a web, man friendship.”.  On a warm summer’s night, at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe, The Italian Embassy in Harare and the Friends of the Gallery will hold a Masked Ball themed Your Nest is My Nest ,This momentous occasion will take place on Saturday the First of October 2016 and is to be graced by a wide array of luminaries from all strata of society,  the cause being supporting the Gallery’s efforts to preserve the nation’s Permanent Collection.

The Fundraising effort this year is focused on celebrating birds and their habitats and the organizers have decided to fuse the theme with a Venetian-styled masked ball where guests will be invited to come veiled as their favorite birds, and enjoy an exciting evening of delicious Italian food, fine wine and great music. There will also be a live auction of artworks on the evening, from the cream of Zimbabwean artists!

Funds raised at this auspicious event will be used to maintain the National Gallery’s Permanent Collection. Art is a national treasure that needs the public’s help in order to be preserved for its intrinsic value and for the enjoyment of future generations. As such, the Bird theme presents an object of identity that is also the country’s National Emblem; the Fish Eagle, a most worthy image to celebrate for its personification of national pride by an institution that works towards the preservation of national heritage.
