The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) has said it will take punitive measures against unregistered tourism operations that are mushrooming around the country

In a statement, ZTA said they have noted the growing number of these entities, which are, however, unregistered with the tourism body.

“We wish to advise that in terms of the Tourism Act of 1996 Chapter 14:20 section 36 all designated tourism facilities are required to be registered with the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority.

According to the same Act, no person shall conduct or operate a designated tourist facility unless it is so registered or graded by the Authority, as the case may be. Below is a list of designated tourism facilities,” said ZTA in a statement.

The tourism body instructed all unregistered tourist facilities and operations including Car Hire companies to close their operations until they regularise their businesses in accordance with the provisions of the Tourism Act.

ZTA said it will engage law enforcement agencies in a crackdown to force those operating illegally to close down their operations.

“As ZTA, we will be working in conjunction with law enforcement agencies and we are launching an operation targeting unregistered car hires and other illegal operations,’’ the statement said while urging members of the public to report any suspected Car Sales operating unregistered Car Hire as well as any other unregistered operations.
