Premier Soccer League debutants, Kwekwe United Football Club have been fined US$3,000 by the Premier Soccer League (PSL) Disciplinary Committee after failing to fulfil their Castle Lager Premier Soccer League fixture against Herentals FC on Easter Monday.
The league has also awarded the match to Herentals with a 3-0 scoreline.
The PSL announced that the club was found guilty of breaching league regulations, issuing a total fine of US$3,500, of which US$500 was suspended for the rest of the season on condition the team does not commit a similar offence.
Kwekwe United has been ordered to pay the effective fine along with the cost of the hearing by May 23, 2025.
The sanction comes amid financial turmoil at the recently promoted club, which says it needs between US$35,000 and US$40,000 monthly to run its operations in the top-flight league.
Club president and founder Phil Makekera recently issued a public apology for the team’s no-show, attributing it to a player strike over unpaid salaries and bonuses.
“We apologise for what happened. We were supposed to be there and we failed. I understand the disappointment,” Makekera said appealing for patience and support from fans, sponsors, and the league.
