US Grants $265,000 to Community Development Projects in Zimbabwe

United States Embassy in Zimbabwe has committed USD265, 000 in small grants towards funding self-help projects in the nine provinces of the country.

In his key note address at the signing ceremony, United States Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Harry K. Thomas Jr applauded the grantees for their commitment to changing lives. “I am happy as we are gathered here to celebrate your commitment to changing lives, and your success in being selected to receive a US Embassy grant,” he said.

The grants were received through the Ambassador’s Special Self-Help Fund of 2016, and this is one of the seven self-help fund spearheaded by the United State government to Zimbabwe.

Ambassador Harry Thomas Jr however said the projects between America and Zimbabwe brings the two countries together.

“Importantly, all of these two programs bring Americans and Zimbabwe closer together. For many of your communities, this maybe their first introduction to the United States and to our positive contributions in Zimbabwe.

“In 2016, the embassy’s grants office has proudly awarded a total of $265.000 in grants funding to diverse organizations working in nine provinces around the country,” he said.

The signing ceremony was attended by representatives of beneficiary organizations from all nine provinces and the organizations are Magwegwe Development Trust in Bulawayo; Shearly Cripps Children’s Home in Mashonaland East; Girls Legacy in Mashonaland East; Rifa Conservation Education Camp in Mashonaland West; Maranatha Orphans Care Trust in Matabeleland South; Women’s Development Association in Gwanda, among others.
