Movement for Democratic Change Youth Assembly has called on the people of Zimbabwe to strike back whenever members of the police use arbitrary force on them.
This comes after police heavily descended on #Tajamuka protesters who took to the streets to register their agony over the malfunctioning economy on Wednesday.
“As an assembly, we call upon the people of Zimbabwe to rise up and face this regime head on. We therefore are warning individual police officers to desist from being used as tools oppression,” said MDC-T Youth Assembly chairperson Happymore Chidziva.
Of late members of the Zimbabwe Republic Police have resorted to the use of force to deal with protesters, who speak against President Mugabe and his ruling party.
Senior Government officials who include Home Affairs minister Ignatius Chombo, Information Minister Dr Chris Mushome are on record warning protesters to stay away from demonstrations as the police is ready to descend on all protesters.
The MDC-T youth boss went on to condemn the use of force by the police on civilians.
“We strongly condemn in the strongest of terms the brutal and force used the police as they beat citizens who were exercising their democratic and constitutional right.
“Amongst the injured in today’s protest was the Assembly’s Secretary General, Lovemore Chinoputsa and Harare Province driver Mr Jemwa. We view this as a declaration of war and we will not take this brutality lightly,” said Chidziva
Chidziva also noted that, crushing of demonstrations by the police reveals how desperate the ruling party is.
“This only goes to show the level of desperation on the part of Robert Mugabe regiment. We will not sit back while the citizenry is harassed willy-nilly.
Meanwhile the Minister Higher and Tertiary, Professor Jonathan Moyo in a series of tweets said the police were exposing themselves by beating people in public.
