Sound engineering workshop on cards

In a bid to improve local sound, a Harare based entertainment company, ShowNation, has organised a three day sound engineering workshop  in Bulawayo.

The workshop which will be hosted by two sound engineering experts, Mbaki Nleya and Tendai Madewu will be held from the 23rd  to the 25th  of May at the Harvest House Inter.

The brains behind the work shop, Nleya, says this knowledge impartation initiative is targeting sound engineers, pastors, producers, singers, decision makers, music lectures, promoters, among other music related professions.

“Everyday there is a function; sound is usually compromised because very few people know exactly what to do.

“It is under this realisation that we saw it fit to move around the country hosting workshops and seminars to impart knowledge on sound.

“The issue of sound does not only affect singers and music producers, but every individual. This is because people host events like parties, weddings and church services which require proper sound; and half the time they are clueless on what to do to have a better sound,” said Nleya.

The workshop which  is running under the theme ‘Let’s Make Zimbabwe Sound Better’  will see  attendees walking away with certificates.

“We are going to cover topics like Dante Protocol, Wireless Connections, Ease Focus, Principles of Sound, and Mixing like a pro.

“These topics cover at least the basic things that anyone on a sound consol desk or anyone doing sound on any event should know about,” says Tendai Madewu

Echoing Madewu’s sentiments, Nleya says the workshop is also aimed at empowering aspiring sound engineers on digital technology.

“The aim is to empower aspiring sound engineers and those already practicing on the importance of embracing digital technology.

“Things are changing and unless we change and learn about the advancements being made we will remain uninformed,” he said.

Kudzai Mudzimu who is an instrumentalist and a singer who is attending the workshop says he can’t wait to learn the dynamics of sound engineering.

“Though i am an instrumentalist and a vocalist, i am also an aspiring sound engineer and half the time I’m tasked to do sound for our band and I’m not impressed with the way i deliver.

I’m taking this workshop as a perfect opportunity to improve myself as a sound engineer,” said Mudzimu.

ShowNation began this initiative of teaching about sound in the year 2014, hosting seminars and workshops around the country.

These seminars are held about five to six times per year and the upcoming workshop is the second time they are going to Bulawayo.
