Man Bashes Toddler With Iron Bar After Failing to Find His Girlfriend

By Judith Nyuke

In a vengeful act targeting his girlfriend, a 46-year-old man attacked a 3-year-old girl with an iron bar, inflicting life-threatening injuries that left her battling for survival in the Intensive Care Unit.

Unable to locate his girlfriend on the fateful day, Maringa turned his frustration on the girl, stating he wanted to avenge the pain she had inflicted on him.

Maringa pleaded guilty when he appeared before Harare magistrate Marewanazvo Gofa charged with attempted murder.

The matter was rolled over to 16 May.

The State represented by Rufaro Chonzi alleges that on 10 May, 2025 at around 1400hrs, Maringa armed himself with a metal bar and proceeded to a house along 15th crescent Glenview 1, Harare.

Upon arrival at the said address, Maringa who was looking for his girlfriend failed to find her and instead directed his anger at an infant, hitting her twice on the head and twice on the abdomen with an iron bar.

The Court heard that the complainant was taken to Sally Mugabe Central Hospital where upon arrival was placed in ICU awaiting further management.
